Fishing Report
Cody, Wyoming
NORTH FORK OF THE SHOSHONE
Flows are at 1040cfs today. The river has doubled since last week, but is gradually rising. Meaning currently the river hasn’t “blown out”, but it is off color. Any big spike in the river means, it probably blew out, and turned to chocolate milk. The river is fishing really well. Remeber the North Fork will close April 15th from Newton creek down to Gibbs Bridge. There will most likely be decent fishing above Newton creek once the closure kicks in. On days the river is clean, nymphing stoneflies works the best. The river is currently crawling with stonefly nymphs. Also try perdigons, soft hackle pheasant tails, and nf specials.
SOUTH FORK OF THE SHOSHONE
The river coming into the reservoir is at 344cfs. The fishing is really good on days the river is clean. Nymphing stoneflies, perdigons, pheasnat tails, duracells, and midges are working the best. Streamers are starting to work really well. Still try smaller to medium buggers or similar with a slower retrieve.
LOWER SHOSHONE
Flows are doubled from last week, and currently at 460cfs. The fishing has been good, but the fish might need to adjust to the new bump for a few days. 460 cfs is still tougher to navigate by boat (raft). Nymphing has been the best. Midges, pheasant tails, perdigons, duracells, meatheads, worms. BWO action on dries can be good at times. Streamers have been working at times too.
Thermopolis, Wyoming
BIGHORN RIVER
Flows are around 862cfs. The fish aren’t as condensed into their winter holding waters (deeper runs). Nymphing is by far going to be the most productive. Sowbugs, scuds, baetis, midges, worms, perdigons, duracells, pheasant tails. Dry fly and streamer is season is right around the corner.
