fishing report

Yellowstone National Park

FIREHOLE RIVER

Flows are around 350cfs, and trending down due to this cold front passing through. I’m sure by Thursday it will be trending back up. The fishing on the Firehole has been incredible. Look for caddis and pmd hatches. Swinging soft hackles has been great, as well as nymphing and letting your flies swing at the end of your drift. They aren’t too picky on the nymph. Try hares ear, pheasant tails, or duracells. Don’t be afraid of color.

GIBBON RIVER

Flows are around 126cfs. Still look for caddis, and stonefly hatches. Dry dropper has been working well here. I like a micro chubby as my dry. They haven’t been too picky on the nymph as well. Pats rubber legs. prince nymph, pheasant tails, duracells, hares ear.

MADISON RIVER

Flows are down to 495cfs. As mentioned before I’m sure this will come up. Pmd’s and caddis have been out. The stoneflies should come very shortly once it warms up a touch more.

Cody, Wyoming

NORTH FORK OF THE SHOSHONE

Flows did bump up over 7000cfs last week and the waters was raging chocolate milk. With this recent cold spell the flows dropped down to 3900cfs. We might see a couple more spikes, but hopefully within a few weeks runoff will be over. Remember closed until July first from Gibbs Bridge to newton creek.

SOUTH FORK OF THE SHOSHONE

Flows are around 2500cfs. The south fork is running pretty dirty, but like the north fork hopefully the runoff is over shortly.

LOWER SHOSHONE

Flows are at 1500cfs. The fishing has been poor. The water is dirty coming out of the dam, and gets dirtier from tributaries the further you get downstream

Thermopolis, Wyoming

BIGHORN RIVER

Flows are around 1500cfs. The fishing has been alright. Baetis, worms, and sowbugs have been working the best.

Firehole River

Flows are around 450cfs, but constantly up and down. The fishing on the Firehole can be incredible this time of year especially as it warms up. This is an incredible dry fly river, look for Beatis, PMDs, and Caddis. You can also find stoneflies in the canyon. If you're not experienced at dry fly fishing, nymphing and swinging soft hackles will find you success.

Gibbon River

Flows are around 150cfs. The Gibbon fishes great this time of year as well. The flows are really up and down, but look for beatis, caddis, and stonefly hatches.

Madison River
